Switching to Cream Makeup in My Forties: Ditching Powdered Bronzer and Setting Powder

As I’ve entered my forties, I’ve found that my skin’s needs are changing. What used to work for me, like my trusty powdered bronzers and setting powders, no longer gives me the smooth, dewy finish I want. Instead, I’ve been gravitating towards cream-based makeup products. I've always been loyal to liquid foundation, but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to make the full switch to cream for other products like bronzers, blush, and contour. Here's why this shift has been a game-changer, and why I’m excited to try a cream highlighter next!

Why I’m Ditching Powdered Bronzer and Excessive Setting Powder

For years, I’ve used liquid foundation for a smooth, flawless finish, but powdered bronzers and the excessive application of setting powder were once crucial steps in my routine. However, I’ve noticed a few things over time that made me realize it’s time for a change:

1. Exaggerating Fine Lines

As I’ve entered my forties, I’ve noticed my fine lines and skin texture becoming more visible. Unfortunately, powdered bronzers tend to settle into those lines, making them more noticeable. Though I’ve always enjoyed a matte finish, I’ve found that powdered products, especially bronzers and setting powders, have become drying for my skin. The more I applied, the more my face looked heavy and cakey, which is definitely not the look I’m going for at this stage of my life.

3. Lack of Glow 

I’ve always loved that soft, radiant finish, but powders can make my skin look flat and dull. Now that I’m in my forties, I crave that youthful glow, which powders just can't provide. It’s more about a hydrated, lit-from-within look rather than a matte, powdered finish.

Recently, I’ve been trying the Youthforia Date Night Serum Foundation, and I have mixed feelings about it. It goes on beautifully with a super lightweight, dewy finish, and I love that it’s packed with skin-loving ingredients meant to improve your skin over time. But after a few hours of wear, the coverage just doesn’t hold up the way I’d hoped.

2. Liquid Blush

I’ve made the switch to liquid blush for a fresh, dewy finish. Here are two favorites:

It’s given me a more youthful, fresh finish that works with my skin rather than against it.
